A Very Vintage Summer

You may have noticed it's been a while since our last post. Well that's because we've been super busy enjoying the summer and I hope you have been too!

We've filled the last month with quintessentially British summertime activities,  from trips to beach and folk festivals, to making jam and punting on the river. And of course, this gave me a chance to wear all my summer vintage clothes too.

Here's a little taste of what we've been doing this glorious summer:

The Seaside

Trips to Southwold and the Norfolk coast were perfect for a spot of traditional seaside nostalgia. I dressed accordingly in my mid century straw boater and broderie anglaise fifties frock. My original 50s St Michael striped shorts also went very well with the iconic beach huts!

The River

At Cambridge Style Week back in February we won a season ticket for punting on the river Cam. So with the summer heatwave, we've taken full advantage of it and spent many a day on the river in our vintage apparel. My collection of vintage sun hats certainly came in handy.

The Festivals

Trips to the Cambridge Folk Festival and Folk by the Oak we're also chances to indulge in wearing clothes from my favourite era - the Sixties. My handmade circle skirt was great to dance in and my early Laura Ashley vintage maxi dress was perfect for creating that 60s folk look.

The Baking

And finally, when I was at home I spent most of the time picking an abundance of fruit from the garden and making it into jam, sorbet and all sorts of things. My trusty 1930s Modern Housewife's Book and my vintage apron saw a lot of use.
So that's what the team here at Retrovert have got up to this summer. We're now getting ready for Twinwood festival this August bank holiday weekend and looking forward to lots of vintage fairs in the autumn.

Did you do any traditional or vintage activities this summer?
